Elections
The City Clerk serves as the Supervisor of Elections for the City of Opa-locka. Regular Elections for the city of Opa-locka are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even numbered years. Both the Mayor and City Commissioners are elected at-large. Compensation for the Mayor and Commissioners of the City of Opa-locka is set at $550.00 per month. The Mayor and City Commissioners are elected to four-term terms.

Candidates for municipal office must file the appropriate forms with the City Clerk prior to opening a campaign account and to qualify for office.  All elections shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter, Code of Ordinances and general election laws of the state of Florida.

Upcoming Elections
The next city of Opa-locka General and Special Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 (registration closing October 11, 2022), for the purpose of elec
ting a Mayor, two City Commissioners and one City Commissioner to fill an unexpired two year term.  A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on December 6, 2022 (registration closing November 7, 2022). Each Candidate must be a qualified elector and meet the requirements set forth in the City Charter and Code of Ordinances.

Qualifying Period
Candidates shall qualify and pay the qualifying fee with the Office of the City Clerk, 780 Fisherman Street, 4th Floor, Opa-locka, Florida 33054. The Qualifying Period will begin at 9:00 AM, Monday, August 1, 2022 and end on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. The qualifying fee is $316.00. 

Candidate Campaign Packet

Voter Registration / Information
Voter registration is handled by the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections. Voter registration applications are available on the Supervisor of Elections website and at Opa-locka City Hall.
