Opa-locka basketball team wins championship game

The Opa-locka basketball team, for 16 and under, won the FCAA league tournament championship game against Carver Ranches with a final score of 41 to 37 at American Senior High School.

The turning point in the championship game came when Antoine Lindsey, #3, hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 34-34 all; then Philip Saunders hit the go-ahead basket that sent the Opa-locka Parks 16 and under into their ultimate championship.

The Opa-locka team placed third in the standings at 4 wins and 4 losses during the season. The team rose from third seed after winning the playoffs against Beast Mode, 37 to 34. The final score was won when DeQuan Higgs hit a reverse lay-up to send the Opa-locka basketball team to their championship.

The team played outstanding defense lead by Lawrence Saunders and Philip Saunders during the playoffs and championship game. The team coach is Ricky James, an Opa-locka city employee.
